F-2 Class
(Mrs Bush and Ms Thorley)
During weeks two and three, the class have had a busy time with the Polwarth Cross Country Day and Mother’s Day preparations.
The Polwarth Cross Country was a big day for our students. Ms Thorley was impressed with the effort and grit show by our class on the day. We also had fun playing with the other schools on the playground and munching on a yummy sausage.
In the lead up to Mother’s Day, we used that theme for our reading, writing and cooking in the kitchen. We hope the mums had a lovely day and got to enjoy the special breakfast at school.
For mathematics, we extended our understanding of partitioning numbers and then moved into measurement. We have been looking at length as a measurement, using items like icy pole sticks and paperclips as a measuring tool, while developing our vocabulary of length measurements (longer, shorter, estimation, longest, shortest).
The children have been doing geography with Ms Sahyoune, a couple of sessions a week, learning about where we live. Ms Bush and Ms Thorley have been touching on this on other days through reading and writing tasks, as well as exploring Google Earth and the weather in different areas of Victoria and Australia. The students have found this very interesting and engaging.
Ms Bush and Ms Thorley have loved getting to know the students more and to see that the children have settled into their new classroom teacher.
A little about Mrs Bush: My name is Jennifer Bush and I am mentoring in the Foundation -Year 2 classroom whilst Bianca is on leave, along side Ms Thorley. I currently live in the Otway Ranges with my family surrounded by cattle, sheep and dairy farms. We live on acreage with a garden, some chickens and sheep. I have two teenage children: Asha and Brodie. As a family we enjoy camping, travelling to new and interesting places, listening to live music, going to festivals and mountain bike riding.
I have been a teacher since 2000 with majority of my teaching being as a specialist Physical Education teacher. I have taught in Victoria, Western Australia and Northern Territory. I enjoy engaging with the students and have always preferred smaller rural schools and communities as I get to know the staff, students and families.

8/5/26 - Olivia, for her focus and enthusiasm with her spelling and home reading.
