Principal's message

Welcome to our latest newsletter.
It has been wonderful to see the strong learning routines continuing across the school as we move further into Term 2. Students are becoming increasingly confident and independent in their learning, and classrooms remain calm, focused and purposeful.
Teachers are continuing to use explicit teaching strategies, including modelling, guided practice and daily reviews, to help students strengthen and retain their understanding over time.
A big thank you to the Mothers, Aunties and Grandmas that attended our Mothers Day Breakfast and to the student and parent helpers who made this event so special, by cooking pancakes and making cups of tea and coffee. It was wonderful to see so many join us in the morning to celebrate the important women in our students’ lives. Events like these are a lovely reminder of the strong sense of community that exists at Alvie.
Our Paddock to Plate program has had a wonderful start, with students enthusiastically participating in gardening, harvesting and cooking activities. These hands-on experiences provide valuable opportunities for teamwork, responsibility and connecting learning to real world experiences. We are also looking forward to our Community Lunch in Week 6. Details have been shared on Compass, and we hope invited special people are able to join us for this opportunity to connect as a school community.
Swimming has also commenced this term, and it has been fantastic to see students participating with enthusiasm and building confidence in the water. Programs like these provide important opportunities for students to develop both skills and resilience.
There has also been exciting progress with our playground works. The new play equipment has now been installed and is looking fantastic. The court is also nearly ready to be resurfaced following some unexpected issues when trucks broke through sections of the existing surface. Ground works are currently underway for the new water play and sandpit area. At this stage, works remain on track for completion by the end of May, with the exception of line marking, which will occur later.
As always, thank you for your continued support of our school. Strong partnerships between school and home play an important role in helping students thrive.
We have a Facebook page - please be sure to follow us to see the adventures that happen at Alvie!
