From the Year 3 Classroom

WOW!!! It is hard to believe that this week is the last week of the Term Three. Time flies when you're having fun! Congratulations to our amazing students and their efforts throughout this term. It certainly has been a busy and fun filled term.
We would like to wish all our students and their families a very happy and safe holiday.
Reading
We conclude our Charlotte’s Web class novel this week and celebrate on Friday with the movie rated G. Students have enjoyed getting to know the characters and reading how their relationships develop. We have explored many elements of the text, including vocabulary, author’s craft and character and plot development.
Thank you! We have noticed a huge improvement in students bringing in their reading diaries- keep it up!
Please continue to encourage your child to read for enjoyment over the holidays.
Writing
Students have been busy following the writing process to construct a narrative on an unusual friendship. They have planned their stories using the story mountain and are now in the drafting stage of their work. Hopefully by the end of the week most of the students will be up to publishing their stories.
Math: Location
Over the next few lessons, students will be diving deeper into how maps work. They’ll start by giving and following directions using grids and simple maps, then move on to exploring how maps can show different viewpoints. Building on what they’ve already learned about mapping familiar places, they’ll now practice using symbols to represent objects—sometimes even from above or other angles!
As the final term of Grade 3 is upon us, we encourage all students to practise their timetables on a regular basis. The Grade 3 minimum expectation is that students know their 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s and 10s.
Multiplication Masters
Well done to all students who are working hard on learning their times tables. A BIG ‘Congratulations’ to the following students who have passed all their times tables from 2x through to 12x.

Inquiry
We will be wrapping up our Inquiry unit on ‘The Mystery of Australia’s History’ this week. Students have enjoyed explored key moments in Australia’s past and changes in communities over time. It’s been a rich and thoughtful journey into Australia’s history.
RE
This week we will finish our Source of Life Unit; Reaching Out and Serving Others. This week we will explore scripture from Romans. The passage we are looking at teaches us how we should treat others—with kindness, service, love, and hospitality. We will conclude the unit by making a collage to show our understanding of what it means to reach out and serve others.
Enjoy the holidays
