Division 1

Men

The Open Men’s hockey team won their way through to this week’s Grand Final with a good win against determined opponents, the Bulls, last Friday.

Goals from Ciaran Nelson and Old Collegian Mark Jarvis led to a 2-1 win in a game where many of our attacks on goal were thwarted by some excellent goalkeeping. Our own defence in turn had to remain alert for fast breaks.

The most pleasing aspect of our play was the movement of our forwards, which created space and allowed for fast ball movement. When we do this well, we are a very good team, and hopefully we can continue with this form this Friday.

Sadly, we will be without our coach, Dr Hawthorne, who will be in Vietnam with the Year Nines. Also in Vietnam will be Oscar Hawthorne, who has been an important member of the team this year. Hopefully we can win for them!

Women

It was a nailbiter this week, with a do-or-die 1-0 win over Dunkeld white. It was all tied until the second quarter, with our goal coming off a stroke, but we continued to play the game as if it was still 0-0.

Standouts for the game include Chloe Headlam, Sophie Merrin and Lily Cush, who set the structure for the game, with their quick runs and steady foundation in the midfield.

After this close win, we are officially in the Grand Final, this Friday, 6pm at Pedrina Park, against Dunkeld Blue, for the third year in a row. The growth we have seen this season is remarkable, from losing the first three games of the season to being in the Grand Final. I am incredibly proud of everyone, and as a team, we wish everyone good luck in the final this weekend.

Finals

Good luck to all College students representing us in this weekend’s Grand Finals! It’s an incredible achievement to reach this stage, and I know you’ll bring the best of our College values to the field.

A huge thank you to our coaches for their time and guidance, and to the umpires for making our sport possible. To the students whose teams didn’t quite make it to the big dance—your efforts, teamwork, and spirit are just as important, and we’ll be celebrating your seasons too.

Clay Target Shooting

On Monday, the College shooting team took part in the Glenelg Division school shoot held out at the Hamilton clay target club.

The shoot was open to students in Years 9-12, who took part in two rounds of twelve targets, with a final score out of 24. With many schools from around Hamilton coming to compete, it was a great day out and the rain stayed away just long enough for everyone to finish shooting.

Many College competitors shot well on the day, with Josh Pringle winning a shoot-off for the day and being awarded 1st in Experienced Boys. Will Templeton, Liam Dwyer and Hamish Brown all made it into a shoot-off but narrowly missing out on a position. I was lucky enough to take out the overall for the day.

College also won the team competition for the top five shooters from each school, added together. Our team consisted of myself, Josh Pringle, Will Templeton, Liam Dwyer and we were thrilled to bring home the 2025 GD shield for the school.

Next Monday will be our break-up shoot, and we are combining this with a 'come and try' day for anyone who is interested in joining the College Clay Target Team next season.
