Advocating Respectful Relationships
At MGSC student wellbeing continues to be a priority, with support offered in many ways — including 1:1 counselling, small group programs, and whole-school wellbeing events.
A recent highlight was our vibrant celebration of R U OK? Day, which brought students and staff together to focus on connection, care, and conversation. The event was proudly supported by our Student Wellbeing Mental health program, Respectful Relationships Team, Kingston Youth Services youth workers, and special guests from the Hawthorn Football Club AFLW players, and Community Programs Team. Together, we asked, “R U OK?” and took the time to inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and start important conversations. Activities on the day helped build a stronger, more supportive school community.
R U OK? Day was also the perfect opportunity for our MY Friends: Young Women in Leadership Wellbeing Program to host a very special panel discussion with some inspiring female athletes. Sixteen selected students warmly welcomed guests and spent an hour engaging in powerful conversations around resilience, positive mental health strategies, self-confidence, and teamwork.
The panel featured:
This session provided our students with the unique opportunity to learn directly from professional athletes about managing pressure, bouncing back from setbacks, and building the confidence to lead.
We are incredibly grateful for our ongoing partnerships with the Hawthorn Football Club Community Programs Team and Kingston Youth Services. Their support and dedication to our students each term continues to make a lasting impact — helping to inspire, support and celebrate our young people in so many meaningful ways.
Local community organisations have shared these free and low cost activities over the holidays.
Together, we thrive.
