Music Program

Spring Concert

As the Performing Arts Captain, I had the privilege of being part of our 2025 Spring Concert, which showcased the incredible talent and creativity of our student performers. This year’s program featured a dynamic mix of music, highlighting many ensemble performances that reflected the dedication and hard work of our arts community.

Kingston Arts Centre is a new venue for us but it did allow some students the opportunity to see part of the concert. It is so important for our younger students to hear the more experienced ensembles. It was inspiring to see everyone supporting one another and engaging the audience with energy and enthusiasm. I hope the evening left everyone with lasting memories of these vibrant performances and the joy of seeing over 300 performers coming together for the Finale. Thank you to all the Music staff for helping us to make this event, the last for our Year 12s,  so special.

Victorian School Music Festival

The Victorian School Music Festival (VSMF) is a significant event on our calendar with many of the band and string orchestras participating at different times. Most recently, the Symphonic Band performed and were awarded a Gold shield for their efforts. This was well deserved with this year’s band performing very strongly, enhance by so many senior students playing with us. The VSMF continues nest term with the Junior Sections for the Year 7 Band. The festival, gives our students the opportunity to perform in a beautiful auditorium, hear groups from other schools, receive valuable feedback which we then work on back at school and to take part in an on stage workshop with a significant conductor or composer.

Congratulations to all the groups who have now performed and good luck to the Year 7 Band for next term.

Disney Concert

The informal vocal students' lunchtime recital is now a 'Disney Plus much more' event. The venue has grown from a Music Room to the Lecture Theatre and the program has expanded to include songs from musicals.

Under Blanka West direction the appreciative audience were treated to group and solo performances drawn from much-loved Disney movies and music theatre classics.

Technical assistance was provided by Sarah-Louise Jacobs' Year 9 Music Mainstage students. Thanks also to Eric Ho for accompanying on the piano when required.

2026 – Who will be learning next year?

At the start of next term, our new Year 7 students will begin their journey of selecting an instrument to learn. Our Year 8 Band and Strings will be performing on October 8 at this event and we will have selected students from Year 9 and above assisting staff with the tryouts.

It is also time now, to indicate your intentions for 2026.

Please complete this form 2026 Instrumental Music Expression of Interest  Current 7-11  for CURRENT students only.

Please note that all students learning at school are required to participate in at least one major ensemble. If you are currently hiring, we strongly suggest that you consider purchasing an instrument (Violin/flute/clarinet/trumpet/Alto Sax/Cello/Trombone) as the cost of hiring for two years is a significant amount with still no instrument at the end. Buying a good quality instrument is an investment and can be sold retrieving more than the cost of the hire fees. Next term we will ask for anyone wanting to sell their instruments to let us know and we may be able to assist with connecting people for resale of instruments.

Please avoid purchasing a musical instrument from Aldi, Bunnings or many of the music stores that have popped up inside shopping centres. Please seek advice from our staff. Please contact any of the music staff is you have questions.
