In writing, KA are learning to write a descriptive compound sentence. A compound sentence consists of two ideas which are ‘glued’ together with a conjunction. The conjunction we have been learning to use is and. We are also learning to use adjectives to add description to our sentences. We can use adjectives to describe how something looks, feels or sounds.

KA’s shared experiences of hatching chicks and a trip to the farm have acted as meaningful prompts for writing detailed sentences.

In word work, our focus has been learning the /sh/ /th/ /ch/ /wh/ diagraphs. A diagraph is a sound that consists of two letters. We have been learning to recognise, read and use these diagraphs in our writing.

In Numeracy, we have been exploring different ways to represent teen numbers. We have used number lines, tally marks and part-whole model to deepen our understanding of each number. We have practised identifying numbers that come before and after, building our number understanding and knowledge.

We have also been learning about 2D shapes, such as triangle, square, rectangle etc, and practising to identify these in our classroom environment. Building on our learning about 2D shapes, we have explored ways to record data in a basic graph. KA voted for their favourite shape before counting the totals and recording on a class graph. This supported discussion around shapes with the most and least votes.
