Our school continues to provide meaningful opportunities that support both the transition into high school and the pathways beyond it.

Inverell RSL Sub-Branch Modern Day Conflicts Memorial

Our community is proud to acknowledge the unveiling of the Inverell RSL Sub-Branch Modern Day Conflicts Memorial, the first of its kind in Australia dedicated to honouring our modern veterans. This significant memorial stands as a lasting tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who have served in recent conflicts.

The design of the memorial carries deep symbolism. The top tier, constructed in grey marble, represents the confusion of war, while the bottom tier, in black marble, reflects the darkness of war. Importantly, all marble used in the memorial has been sourced from within Australia, further connecting this landmark to the nation it represents.

Our Inverell High School Leaders were honoured to attend the commemorative march and the formal dinner held on the evening of the unveiling. Their presence reflected the school’s ongoing commitment to civic engagement and respect for those who have served.

The establishment of this memorial ensures that the service and sacrifices of modern veterans are remembered with dignity and respect. It also serves as an educational opportunity for students and the wider community to reflect on the ongoing contributions of our Defence personnel.

Our Year 11 Student Representative Council leaders volunteered their time to raise valuable money for Legacy last week.  The students were able to raise $1893.60 in their allocated session last Wednesday morning. I would like to show my appreciation to these students for their commitment to their local community.  The Legacy Week appeal has been running since the 1940’s and is a time for all Australians to show their support for the widows and children whose loved ones have served our country. Legacy Week is a time to give back to the families of those who have given so much.

A CONVERSATION CAN CHANGE A LIFE

On Thursday 11 September Inverell High school held its annual R U OK? Day.  This is one of the most important mental health awareness events not only in our school, but Australia. A powerful reminder to always check in in on the people around us matters.

R U OK? inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around us and start a conversation with those in their world who may be struggling with life.

You don't need to be an expert to reach out - just a good friend and a great listener.

Use these three steps and have a conversation that could change a life:

Ask R U OK?

1.           Listen

2.           Encourage action

3.           Check in

Transition Day

Last week, we proudly hosted our Year 6 into Year 7 half-day transition program. This was a highly successful event where our incoming students were introduced to the high school setting in a supportive and encouraging environment. Students participated in a variety of orientation activities and lessons designed to ease the shift from primary to high school. This experience now prepares them for the full-day transition program scheduled for Thursday, 13 November 2025, which will further strengthen their readiness for high school life.

Career Opportunities

At the other end of the journey, selected Year 12 students travelled to Port Macquarie to visit Charles Sturt University. The campus tour gave them valuable insights into university life and helped them consider the opportunities available as they prepare for their post-school pathways. It was an inspiring day that broadened horizons and encouraged our students to think about their next steps with confidence.

In addition, selected Year 10 students took part in the Future Made – Industry Tour of Inverell. This initiative offered first-hand experiences across a range of local industries, allowing students to explore the many exciting career opportunities available within our own community. The tour was an eye-opening experience, providing a clear understanding of the training and skills required to pursue a variety of trades and professions. Students returned with a renewed sense of direction and motivation for their future pathways.

We are proud of our students’ enthusiastic engagement in these activities. Whether preparing to begin high school or planning for life beyond it, each of these opportunities helps our young people build confidence, broaden their aspirations, and take steps towards achieving their goals.
