R U OK? Day

On Thursday 11 September, Marist Sion College proudly celebrated R U OK? Day, a national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone to check in with those around them and start meaningful conversations that could change a life.

To mark the occasion, our Counselling and Wellbeing team hosted a BBQ breakfast for students and staff. The event created a warm and welcoming atmosphere, encouraging connection and conversation over a shared meal. The smell of egg and bacon rolls, along with the sound of laughter and music, filled the air as students gathered before school to enjoy breakfast and reflect on the importance of mental health and wellbeing.

Staff from the Wellbeing and Counselling team were on hand to chat with students, offer support, and promote the message that a simple question, “Are you OK?”, can make a big difference. The event was a great success, fostering a sense of community and reinforcing our commitment to student wellbeing.

We thank everyone who participated and helped make the morning a meaningful and memorable one.

Active Citizens Award

There are many ways that our College recognises and celebrates the achievements of members of our community. We acknowledge those who excel in their academic, sporting and cultural endeavours in a variety of ways.

In addition, our College Captains and Vice Captains recognise and celebrate students who make positive contributions to our school culture through the Active Citizens Award.

The award highlights students whose actions—big or small—make a difference in the lives of others.

At our recent Sion Assembly, the following students were recognised:

  • From Years 7 and 8: Josie Malady

Nominated for the criterion of Peer Support. During the recent storms, this student gave an umbrella to a St Joseph’s student who was walking to school in the rain

  • From Years 9 and 10: Kayla Harrison Nominated for the criterion of Peer Support. This student assisted a younger student to get to class after they dropped their belongings on the ground, offering valuable support and encouragement.

  • From Years 11 and 12: Ben Gleeson

Nominated for the criterion of Positive Role Model. This student received multiple nominations from peers for consistently being a positive and helpful example to others.

Students are encouraged to seek wellbeing support from the Counselling and Wellbeing Services Team.
