What's coming up in the Classroom:

LiteracyIn Week 9, students will be finalising various publications, including persuasive materials for their inquiry, as well as their personal pieces for the term. In Term 4, we will begin by re-evaluating reading and writing goals with a strong focus on grammar and punctuation.

MathsWe are coming to the end of our unit on Angles and will look to include some revision sessions during Week 9. To kick off Term 4, we will have a weeks revision on place value, decimals and the 4 operations. There will be plenty of scope for extension during this time by looking at squared and triangular numbers, square roots and orders (powers). We also look forward to updates on our House Points Timestables Challenge that has kicked off!

InquiryWe are very much looking forward to our upcoming showcase of our Shark Tank Design Expo. This will be held on Tuesday 16th September. It will be open to visiting classes during sessions 3 and 4, and will have an open invitation for families from 2:30pm-3:20pm. Votes will be cast throughout the day from all visitors with our top 5 entries being announced the following day. On Wednesday 17th September, our final entries will have time to prepare their pitch for the visiting ‘Sharks’ who will attend during sessions 3 & 4 on that day. It is set to be a very busy and exciting couple of days. An email will be sent home to families with details of when the exhibition can be visited by families.

Respectful Relationships: As we approach the end of the term, classes are finishing up their lessons on violence, sexual violence forms and what sexual harassment means. These have been some very heavy conversations and we are very thankful for the students open minded-ness and their maturity about such important topics. Term 4 topics are being finalised and will be emailed home at the start of the term with an outline. This will also include information about Health Education for both Grade 5 and 6 students that will take place later in Term 4.

Willy Kids: During Week 9, Willy Kids are Positive. Term 4 will begin to look at themes that sit under our 4th pillar at Willy Primary, Responsibility.

Hosting Assembly:

  • Week 8- 5/6S
  • Week 9- Footy Day Assembly Hosted by ⅚ students
  • Term 4, Week 2- 5/6I

Year 5 Families- Grade 6, 2026 Apparel:

As you may be aware, it has become a tradition at Williamstown Primary for our graduating class to wear commemorative garments throughout their final year of primary school. Our Grade 5 families will have the opportunity in the coming weeks to place their orders via an online store. Additional information will be communicated soon.

Samples have arrived at school and will be available for students to try on before placing their order. We recommend going up a size to ensure the items fit throughout the following year. Students will have the opportunity to try these items on during school time and take note of the sizes that fit. Alternatively, parents are welcome to come in and assist their child in selecting the right size after school in the Gallery.

Call out to Families:

The Maths Team are looking to spruce up some of our measurement and capacity resources and are seeking some donations from families across the school for 3D Objects/Containers. We are gathering up interesting containers to use for our upcoming units on three dimensional objects, capacity and volume. Having a collection of these on hand assists students in making the connection between the content covered in the classroom and where this presents itself in the real world. If you have any interesting 3D objects you can part with, like gift boxes or plastic containers, please send them through to school with your child to give to their classroom.

Have a wonderful week.

Warm regards,

The Grade 5/6 Team - Christina Crosland (5/6C), Emma Chang (5/6E), Molly Hedditch (5/6H), Bianca Italiano & Bianca Russo (5/6I), Matt Eason-Jones (5/6M) & Brittlee Salvo (5/6S)
