Year 3/4 Team News
with Bec, Mary, Katja, Grace, Alison, Hayley & Steven
Our 3/4 Willy Kids have had a busy Term 3, participating in many engaging learning experiences. Last week, our Year 4’s completed 2 days of Bike Education which an extremely valuable program aimed at keeping them safe when bike riding. We sincerely thank our parent volunteers for helping us out. It is much appreciated.
Thank you also to those who came along on Thursday for our open afternoon to see all the work the children have completed.
Coming up:
3D Objects/Containers Donations
We are gathering up interesting containers to use for our upcoming units on three dimensional objects, capacity and volume. Having a collection of these on hand assists students in making the connection between the content covered in the classroom and where this presents itself in the real world. If you have any interesting 3D objects you can part with, like gift boxes or plastic containers, please send them through to school with your child to give to their classroom.
Reminders
Fortnightly Curriculum Focus:
Literacy: In Reading, we have been learning about the features of poetry. We will be learning how to summarise a text and how to take effective notes. We will discus the theme and events in our class novel.
In Writing, we will be publishing our poems to create our own poetry book.
Numeracy: Chance and Probability. We will be exploring chance through language and practical (hands on) activities. We will be learning about terminology related to chance and probability. We will be learning to identify practical activities and everyday events that involve chance and describe outcomes as ‘likely’ or ‘unlikely’ and identify some events as ‘certain’ or ‘impossible’. We will be learning to identify outcomes of chance experiments.
Inquiry: For our Inquiry question is “What would life be like without laws and rules?”, we are learning about the meaning of democracy. We will discuss what might happen if we didn’t have democracy. We will discuss examples of how people participate in a democratic society and explain why democracy is important to our way of life.
Respectful Relationships: Positive Gender Relationships. Using age-appropriate activities students will students will explain how they can combine trust and courage when they need to seek help. Students will identify ways to use the ‘tell’ step in the No, Go, Tell model.
We wish all our families a lovely break and thank you for all your support throughout the year so far.
