Grade 5-6 Melbourne Camp

Last week I got to join the 5-6 students, staff and parent helpers on the Melbourne camp.  We were extremely lucky with the weather, meaning we were able to participate in all planned activities, without any interruption.

The program was full, and included whole group visits to the aquarium, MSAC (Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre), Eureka Skydeck, IMAX and a river cruise.  On Thursday students operated in small groups to take part in the ‘Amazing Race’.  Each group received several challenges that required them to find their way to various locations around the CBD and solve related clues.  Everyone did a fabulous job with this and covered a lot of ground.

A combination of the above certainly helped the kids become more familiar with the centre of Melbourne and be more confident in making their way around, either on foot or using public transport.

Well done to the 5-6 team who spent an enormous amount of time and energy planning and running the event.  Well done also to the kids who embraced all of the activities and challenges and got along so well.  And a big thank you to the teacher aides and parents who came along and helped out.

Student Attitude toSchool Survey Results

Earlier in the year grade 4-6 students participated in statewide Student Attitude to School surveys.  We always look forward to results coming in, as they help us understand how the students are feeling about their experience at our school.  The surveys ask the students a wide variety of questions, including how they view learning in classrooms, their relationships with staff and other students, their sense of safety at school …. and much more.

We’re really pleased with the results, which became available recently.  Overall, the scores for our school (at both campuses) measured up well against schools across the state, which matches what we observe in classrooms and the yard.

Over the next few weeks, we will take the opportunity to workshop the results with staff and the kids.  This is always a useful exercise, helping us to dig down and identify the key things that need attention, as well as aspects of our work that are going well.

 Father’s Day

We hope all dads in the school community have a lovely day on Sunday and look forward to having our very first official Father’s Day Breakfast at both campuses this Thursday.  At Buninyong this will take place in the courtyard, while everyone will gather in the old building at Scotsburn.  And, of course, later in the week all students will get the opportunity to purchase something from the Father’s Day stall to show appreciation for dad or another father figure in their life.

Parent Surveys

Thanks to those that have already completed this survey that was distributed to families two weeks ago.  For those that haven’t, you now have until Friday September 19.  We’d like to get lots of survey responses, so please consider taking 20 minutes to help us out with this.

Colour Run

This week we have launched our major school fundraiser, the Colour Run!

This is a massive event for our school and something that all students enjoyed in 2023.  Please look out for Compass posts to keep up to date with what's happening each week and the prizes on offer.

If you haven't yet created a profile for your child, please see recent Compass messages or the Colour Run page in this newsletter for the QR code and further information.
