The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

On September 14th our Parish celebrated its feast day - The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. On this day, we remember how important the cross of Jesus is for us all. The cross is not just a sign of pain or death. It is a sign of love, hope and new life. Jesus died on the cross to save us, and through His resurrection, He showed us that love is stronger than death.

This special feast is also connected to Saint Helena. She was the mother of Emperor Constantine. A long time ago, she travelled to the Holy Land to find the places where Jesus lived and died. During her journey, she found what many believed to be the true cross of Jesus. To honour this discovery, a church was built in Jerusalem. It was dedicated on September 14 in the year 335. That is why we celebrate this feast on that day.

The cross reminds us that even when life is hard, God is with us. Just like Saint Helena searched for the cross with faith, we are called to look for Jesus in our own lives. The cross teaches us to love others, to forgive and to trust in God’s plan.

To celebrate this day, the Parish opened the new parish centre. Our talented St Helena’s Liturgical dancers performed and the parish joined in a lunchtime meal together. The parish centre is a celebration of our parish’s growth, and a place where our Sacramental meetings, retreats and community events can be held.
