Performing Arts News

This semester has been full of music, drama, and fun in Performing Arts!
Foundation:
Students have been singing Que Sera by Justice Crew and warming up with YouTube teacher Cheryl Porter (who we call “Mamma Cheryl”). They also enjoyed singing games like Nanny Goat and Rain Rain Go Away. To finish, they performed the story of The Gingerbread Man. Look out for videos on the Seesaw app!
Year 1/2:
Students in Year 1/2 have been singing and learning how to read rhythm notation. They bravely performed rhythms in front of the class and played a “Noughts and Crosses” rhythm game.
They also sang Great Big House in New Orleans and played claves (rhythm sticks) and tambourines. Some students could even sing and play together! Students also learnt to sing See You Again by Charlie Puth.
Year 3/4:
Students worked on drama and public speaking by performing the play Rice Pudding. In this skit, a child faints after eating rice pudding and an ambulance, doctor, and nurse arrive to help.
It was amazing seeing quiet and shy students act with confidence, speak loudly, and take on bold roles. Performing a silly skit really helps students escape their shyness to speak in front of others.
Year 5/6:
Senior students practised reading and composing rhythms using Kodály names for rhythmic notation such as; ta, ti-ti, za, too-oo and tika-ka They also played a fast-paced Kahoot rhythm quiz.
On the ukulele, we learnt Am, F, and C chords along with correct strumming and holding technique. Some advanced players could even master the tricky three-finger G chord!
It has been wonderful to see all our students grow in creativity and confidence this semester.
