Pathways Report

With the final Year 12 classes fast approaching our team has been having conversations with every VCE and VCE:VM student about what comes next.
For many students the conversation has been about VTAC (Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre) and University applications. Others the focus has been on Work Experience, polishing resumes and cover letters as well as short courses, engaging with employment agencies for job opportunities and finalising apprenticeships and/or traineeships.
Many students want to take a 'Gap Year' to focus on work and travel. The Pathways Team work to ensure that all students have a plan (and a backup plan) moving forward. This looks so different for each student, but we hope everyone leaves Woodmans Hill Secondary College with the knowledge, curiosity and belief that they can achieve anything.
Some areas of exploration for our students include the Australian Defence Force, studying Medical Imaging, Childcare, Working with Animals, Hairdressing, Local Government, Photography and Sports Science.
We have students applying for university in Tasmania, South Australia and Queensland.
We even have a handful of students applying to study Primary and Secondary teaching.
What an exciting time for all our Year 12's. We wish them all well on their journey and we will be available with support and advice long into the future.
Student of Focus:
One of our Year 12 students Riley C, just finished off a 5 day Work Experience placement at the Ballarat Animal Shelter. I'm not sure who enjoyed this week more, Riley or Nibbles and all the cats at the shelter.
The staff were impressed with Riley and in particular his care and enthusiasm. Riley also showed examples of important employability skills such as showing initiative (cleaning up after the cats, doing the dishes etc.) and motivation, Riley was ready to learn, on time, enthusiastic, and being a team player. These skills are crucial in the workforce and aren't easily taught.
Well Done Riley on your amazing week and for representing Woodmans Hill Secondary College in such a caring and professional manner, and for getting through the week without adopting a cat.
