English Department Report

Paul Kelly

With the closing of Term 3, we see many of our classes moving forward into new units.

  • Year 7 have finished speeches, and are moving into their study of the film Wall-E.

  • Year 8 have concluded their blog posts and speeches, and are now moving on to Edward Scissorhands

  • Year 9 have also finished their speeches, freeing them up to study the film Jojo Rabbit

  • Year 10 students are concluding their year with a focus on Persuasive articles, and will also be completing speeches early next term.

  • Year 11 VCE English students are similarly moving onto persuasion, after having finished their unit on Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window

  • Year 11 VCE English Language students have recently completed a SAC focusing on the history of English, and have moved on to analysis of world Englishes.

  • Year 11 VCE:VM Literacy students have begun presenting their propositions for an excursion, which may in fact go ahead!

  • Year 12 VCE English students have mostly wrapped up their course content, and have begun to move into Exam revision and preparation.

I want to offer my deepest appreciation to all our students who have completed their speeches over the last few weeks. Public speaking is a skill that many find difficult and scary. It is fantastic to see so many of our students pushing themselves to succeed in this field.
