Year -1/2 Unit

What a busy term it has been! Our Year 1 and 2 students have been making fantastic progress as the weeks go by.

In Reading, our young readers have been exploring adverbs, adjectives, and synonyms. They’ve learned how these words add detail and help us understand procedural texts. We’ve also been talking about tenses and how changing a part of a word can shift its meaning. Plus, students are starting to make inferences using picture clues!

In writing, the students have been busy crafting delicious recipes. They’ve created amazing stews with unique ingredients and mouth-watering sandwiches. They’re learning to write clear and specific instructions that anyone can follow. We’ve also begun brainstorming ideas for narrative writing, focusing on developing interesting characters and settings.

In Maths we just finished our unit on fractions, where students explored halves, quarters, and eighths using shapes and collections. Now, we’re diving into telling time! Students are learning about the different parts of a clock, how to read time to the hour, half-hour, and quarter past, as well as how long different activities take.

In Inquiry: Our students are having fun with coding! Using tools like Scratch Junior and BeeBots, they’ve been solving problems and learning key coding terms like “debug” and “algorithm.”
