Hands On Learning

Most of Hands On Learning for the current cohort has been purposed to build for the future. We have continued the work of previous groups of building hub where we gather to learn new skills. We have made it to landscaping projects and now with the garden hooked up to auto watering we will turn our attention to tool storage.

In the meantime, I wanted the students to take something tangible home as a reminder of their time in Hands on Learning. As the weather had turned warmish on Wednesday the time was ripe to work away in the shade of the trees with a cooling breeze fanning us. This project is a crowd favourite, making a tool box out of recycled pallets. There’s a little bit of everything in this one, from demolition to construction that uses imagination and ingenuity, I dare say a fair bit of patience too.

It was a pleasure to see the group working as a team to each build their own box. There were lots of questions being asked and answered, sharing of tools and resources and offers of help and advice that showed me how valuable this program is to helping young people find a place to belong and thrive in.

Today in Hands on Learning we had to make some tool boxes and I was cooking. We’ve had Kransky’s a lot, next week we are supposed to have pizza but that may not happen as the pizza oven is really slow and doesn’t work that good. Our job was to build our own tool box out of wood. Kaylee

Today at Hands on Learning Amber, Kaylee and I made toolboxes out of wood pallets. For lunch Kaylee made us cheese kransky's, they were so good. Kayden
