Class 2 News

JESSICA MCCAUL

Dear Class 2 Friends and Families,

We have had Jabba learning with us in Class 2 for the last two weeks. He is studying Steiner Education at the Rudolf Steiner Seminar in Melbourne. We have enjoyed his games, riddles and poetry and we hope he loved our counting, stories, drawings and songs. Best wishes for your journey, Jabba.

On our journey, From the Desert to the Sea, we encountered some Australian stories which we made into a collection of books. When your child brings their collection home take note of the effort they have put into making these beautiful books. Reading these with your child will be a great support for their learning but the stories are perhaps not so appropriate for children under 7.

Eight months after we began Class 2 with “The King of Ireland’s Son”, we return to this tale which provides imagery of an individual who is striving to develop. Like the King’s Son, as our children develop an inner trust in the world around them, they are offered experiences for growth (choices and consequences) as well as companionship and guidance. This story supports the idea that development is worth striving for, even whilst it involves struggle. By hearing tales from around the world, a foundation is laid enabling our children to appreciate the breadth of narrative from a diversity of traditions.

Through the writing and illustrating of their own books, Class 2 continue to build a bank of sight words and continue to master a variety of simple phonic patterns through word families. Together, we create our Main Lesson Book based on familiar verses, rhymes and stories that the children read together and individually. From this point, the children are then enabled to move to books with unfamiliar text.

Encourage your child to write simple messages, cards, letters and recipes.

Class 2 Meeting for Term 4 is on next Tuesday at 4pm-5pm. Please come along!

Thank you,

Jessica
