Desert Rose Playgroup

Rainbows, Rainbows everywhere

There’s a bridge of wondrous light, filled with colours shining bright, Red and orange, yellow, green, the fairest colours ever seen, Blue and violet, magic rose, down from heaven to earth it goes!

Summer feels like it is well and truly on the way! With it comes a big (slightly hot and bothered) out breath. In Mparntwe (Alice Springs) it definitely means a change of pace, we slow down a bit and tend to spend a bit more time indoors. At playgroup we try to create a cooling and calming atmosphere for the children - through things like the temperature in the room, the soothing colours on the nature table, the songs we sing and the stories we tell. The cooling image of the rainbow seems to belong at this time of year and the rainbow fairies have been taking us on some exciting adventures beyond the rainbow.

At this stage in the year parents know each other very well and it can be very noisy and chatty in the playgroup room. It’s such a delight to see families feeling relaxed and at ease at playgroup but its important to be mindful of our little ones, too much noise can be very overstimulating for them. In Steiner educational philosophy we believe that in the early years, children learn primarily through imitation. The more we can strive to create a calm, centred and peaceful environment, the more our children can feel safe and secure to play and explore.

We also have some rainbow inspired simple craft activities to end our year and look forward to sharing them with you!

Blessings,

Linnea, Caitlin and Jemima
