Year 8 Activities: Exploring Geology, Anatomy, and Design with Hands-On Learning

After the break, Year 8 dove straight into an exciting Main Lesson on Economic Geology, where we explored the origins and impacts of the resources and products we use every day.

Students examined how these resources influence local and global economies, while also considering their environmental impacts. This study connected with our previous lessons on the Age of Discovery and the Industrial Revolution, highlighting how these historical events have shaped today’s resource use and supply chains.

Now, in our current Main Lesson on anatomy, we’re studying bone structures in vertebrates and learning about the human skeletal system. Students are engaging with the structure and function of bones, discovering how they support movement, protect organs, and allow for fascinating adaptations across species.

In an exciting project to complement our new Year 9 building, Classes 7 and 8 have been tasked with designing a garden and vegetation layout for the new area. This project combines math skills with practical application, introducing students to land surveying using GPS technology. Together, we transformed collected data into a terrain model, which students are using to build an architectural model of the site. It’s a fantastic opportunity to see math, design, and environmental planning come to life – a truly engaging experience for our young designers!

Warm regards,
