Academic Awards and Handover Assembly

This Monday, we celebrated the achievements of  Year 12 students at the Semester Two Academic Awards and Handover Assembly. The event was a wonderful occasion to recognise the hard work, dedication, and outstanding academic accomplishments. Awards were presented to students who had shown exceptional performance in their ATAR and APEx courses, as well as those who had demonstrated remarkable improvement throughout the  Attitude and Effort Awards. It was a true celebration of talent, perseverance, and the pursuit of academic growth. Well done to all students recognised at this assembly.

As part of the assembly, we also introduced our new student leaders for 2025 with the “Handover” tradition, whereby the current Year 12 leaders officially passed on their responsibilities to the incoming student leaders for 2024 with the much anticipated ringing of the Handover Bell.. It was a touching moment that marked the continuity of leadership and the beginning of new opportunities for the next group of students to make their mark. My congratulations to those students selected as part of our Captains and Prefects for 2025, but also a reminder that all Year 11s of the Class of 2025 are now leaders of our school.

Wannabe Day

On Tuesday, our Year 12s celebrated the much-anticipated Wannabe Day, a unique event where students let their imaginations run wild, dressing up as the people they "wannabe" From iconic celebrities to fictional characters and future career aspirations, the costumes were a testament to the creativity and enthusiasm within the year group. The day was not just about dressing up, but also about coming together for a shared sense of fun, laughter, and nostalgia to mark the end of their time together as our 2024 graduating class.

Pictures tell a thousand words and rather than me run through all the events of Wannabe Day the following photos show how much the day meant to our graduating Class of 2024.

Wannabe Day continues to be a beloved tradition at St George's and this year's celebration did not disappoint. From the imaginative costumes to the shared laughter, heartfelt thanks, and friendly competitions, the day was a fantastic reminder of the importance of fun and community.

A big thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the day unforgettable, especially to our Heads of House who constant enthusiasm created a sense of fun and engagement and who started a new tradition – the introduction of the Wannabe Cup – won of course by Gandhi!.

Celebrating the Class of 2024: A Day of Reflection, Farewell, and Celebration

Wednesday 16 October marked a significant day in the lives of our Year 12 students at St George’s Anglican Grammar School. It was a day filled with reflection, gratitude and celebration, as the graduating class of 2024 came together for the final time as students. The day included a House Breakfast, heartfelt farewells during the Stations of the School, a memorable student-led Final Assembly and the elegant Valedictory Ceremony in the evening.

The events of their final week were not just about saying goodbye, but about celebrating the journey that brought the Year 12s to this point. From early morning reflections over breakfast to the moving farewells at the Stations of the School, the emotional Final Assembly, and the recognition of achievements at Valedictory, it was a day that honoured the past and embraced the future. I hope that our Year 12s will look back on their final few days with much fondness and many great memories.

I wish the graduating class of 2024 all the very best in their future endeavours, confident that they will carry the spirit of St George’s wherever they go.
