A joy to behold

This week the school has been awash with celebrations. It has been an incredible week to have been leading the St George’s Community and one that has brought me much joy.

It has been a week where we have seen new beginnings and endings. We have seen tears and laughter. We have seen the community of St George’s shine through and truly sparkle, and we have seen the Class of 2024 realise, just like Winnie the Pooh, ‘ how lucky they are to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard”.

This week we came together as a school community to fondly farewell our Year 12s of the Class of 2024 as they transitioned to their lives beyond school. Throughout these events there was an obvious wave of emotion, yet what was evident in all things was the wonderful camaraderie and sense of community spirit and connectedness shared amongst everyone here at St George’s.

I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to our Year 12 students for not only completing their final few days with so much grace, dignity and a sprinkle of good fun but also for fostering such positive engagement with their teachers and their peers. It was an outstanding few days and I hope they will look back and reflect positively on their time here.

Valedictory for the Class of 2024 was a day filled with reverence, tradition and a mountain of heartfelt moments all contributing to a poignant conclusion to this chapter of their educational journey at the Valedictory Service held at the splendid St George’s Cathedral on Wednesday night. I think I speak on behalf of the whole staff in saying that this year group will be dearly missed, and we thank them sincerely for all that they have contributed to the School. They have been a sensational graduating class. Go Well Year 12s.

To those now settling down to study prior to the commencement of their ATAR examinations – Good Luck from us all. Your teachers are still here to assist you and you are warmly welcomed back to touch base as you prepare for these important examinations. Our doors are always open to you and we look forward to welcoming you as the newest members of our alumni – The Grammarians.

Another high of this week was the election of our 2025 Captains and Prefects. A huge congratulations to all those appointed to leadership roles from the Class of 2025. They have already commenced their leadership duties, ushering at Valedictory and taking over the morning welcome duties with Father Gift. Whilst it has been said much over the last few days that they have big shoes to fill, I know that they too will bring to St George’s their own sense of awe and wonder to our School building upon the legacy of the students who have gone before them. Being a leader takes courage, discipline and determination – to the Class of 2025, handle this baton of leadership with care. I have every confidence that you will lead well. And to finish the week we came together in our loud shirts to finish off the week with a bang. Who can believe it is only the end of Term Four, Week 2.  Rest easy this weekend St George’s!
