Today is a great day to be you!
On Monday night, Belinda from The Resilience Project visited to present to a full library of parents and carers about Digital Wellbeing - and provided a number of ideas of what we can do to support our families in this space.
We all understand the online world presents new challenges that previous generations haven't faced - and I'm sure one thing we can agree on is that we all just want to keep our children safe.
Belinda shared some recent statistics (from this year's Resilient Youth Survey, which had over 80,000 Year 3-12 students respondees), and a sad fact is that:
One strategy shared was introducing 'device-free zones'. Bedrooms and the dinner table are the perfect place to start to help build improved awareness of device usage and online dangers.
A key takeaway message was 'be kind to yourself'. Nobody is perfect and we are all learning in this space as children and parents. A huge thank you to those who were able to make it along on Monday night, and for those who couldn't, please find shared resources below outlining a collection of the strategies discussed.
Coming up on Saturday 9th November, our wonderful RAFT (RAngeview Fathering Tribe) will be hosting its next event - a scavenger hunt around the local area followed by a movie in the school gym.
Important to note: this is a 'Goonies' themed event. Families with younger children may like to participate in the scavenger hunt component for a bit of fun around the local neighbourhood, however may choose to skip the movie. The Goonies is rated PG. It was released in 1985, so please keep in mind 'PG' almost 40 years ago is very different to what might be considered 'PG' today. We would encourage you to read about or view the movie yourself prior to the event. The movie may be more suitable for our older students.
Please understand it is 100% up to each family to decide if the movie is appropriate for your child/ren as this is a parent-run event, not a school-run event.
