What a fabulous and eventful fortnight we have had at Rangeview! I returned from my leave - I had a long planned family holiday in Greece - and the school was in full swing for Term 2! We had our huge and incredibly successful Oktoberfest Fair, our whole school photo day, Foundation had their intensive swimming program, we had Division Boys Softball, District Girls Tennis, Division Tennis, Regional Athletics, Regional Volleyball, Regional Future Stars 3/4 Hoop Time, World Teachers Day, Level 3 and 4 Excursion to Polly Woodside, Level 1 and 2 Incursion Dino Dig, the State Final German Poetry Competition, our Resilience Project Digital Wellbeing Information night for parents, Level 6 Life Education sessions, Foundation Puffing Billy Excursion, Foundation 2025 Transition session 3, the Level 5 and 6 Persuasive Speech Competition, and our wonderful Level 2 Sleepover.
The Rangeview Oktoberfest Fair held on Sunday 20th October, was an unbelievably huge success! From rides to Level 5/6 Market Stalls, Side Show Games to the Petting Zoo, there was something for everyone. We saw thousands of people come through our gates and join as one community to support the school and celebrate Oktoberfest. It was wonderful to have the Beer Garden again and thanks to our friends at 8Track Brewery we had an authentic German Beer brewed especially for our event.
This Fair was completely organised and run by our fabulous Parents and Friends Committee. Without their tireless efforts it would not have gone ahead. It was an absolute credit to them, and I extend on behalf of the whole school community our deepest thanks. The committee was led by Rebecca Peers, Laura Warren, Michal Hadjon and Himadri Grant. Thank you also to the wider committee who also worked extremely hard to create this wonderful day. Claire and Caroline brought us the Beer Tent, Selina and Dani organised Rides and Entertainment, Tanee organised the Raffle, Kanchana booked the Market Stalls, Food Stalls - including the parent run Indian Food stall - were run by Lily and Mandeep, and Sports Clinics were booked by Amanda.
Thank you also to our wonderful teachers who helped on the day - supporting student market stalls, conducting choirs and bands, performing, counting money, and being dunked! Finally, thank you to all of the community who volunteered on the day - helping out with stalls and entertainment, or doing the behind the scenes set up and pack down. Its days like this that really emphasise the community spirit we have here and it was spectacular to see.
On Friday 25th October, our Level 2 students participated in a sleepover at school. It was wonderful to see the cohort of very excited students arrive in the early evening for sports games and activities in the gym, followed by dinner and a night walk. They then returned to school to have hot chocolate and watch a movie from their 'beds'.
A huge thank you to the parent who volunteered their time to assist with this event - Aditya Lakhani, Brooke Roger, Natalie Mackechnie, and Adele Braun. Thank you also to the incredible Level 2 team, Khay Le, Marita Horvath, Marianne Kehoe, Carol Wilson, and Hannah Ambrose for their work to organise and run this event for the students. There were some very tired faces on Saturday morning at pick up and they weren't the students!
It was wonderful to celebrate Teachers Day on Friday 25th October. Mr Sommers and the Wellbeing Team organised a big banner for the front of the school and some Teachers Survival Kits for each teacher. A huge thank you to Fiona Tomietto who rallied the parents and to all the families who provided such a wonderful morning tea spread! It was truly amazing. Special mention to Pramod Sharma who wrote a beautiful poem for the teachers and has presented a copy framed for display at the school.
It is such a privilege to work amongst such dedicated, talented and passionate educators and on behalf of the leadership team, I thank you for all that you do.
We will be having a Pupil Free Day on Monday 4th of November. Our Their Care program will be operating for any families that require care on this day.
In the wake of the tragic car accident at the Primary School in Hawthorn, I ask that all families take care on our roads during drop off and pick up each day. Please do not drive across footpaths into driveways to turn around. Please do not u-turn next to school entrances. Please do not drop children on the far side of the road and allow then to cross away from crossings. Please follow directions provided on street signage. Please do not drive into the school main driveway and back out onto Churinga Ave.
With 700 students entering and leaving the school each day, we all need to work together to ensure safety for our community.
I wish you all a safe and restful long weekend.
