Graduating with a Heart of Justice

When I see our Year 12 women graduating, I am reminded that not only are we celebrating their academic milestones but also the values that have shaped their person. In a Catholic school inspired by Mary Ward, these values of Freedom, Justice, Sincerity, Verity, and Felicity are at the heart of everything we do.

Mary Ward believed in the importance of educating and empowering young women to make a meaningful impact on the world. Her vision that “women, in time to come, will do much” is shown by our Year 12 students, who have not only excelled academically but also demonstrated a commitment to serving others.

This year, our Year 12 students have actively engaged in various social justice initiatives. They participated in the Winter Sleep Out, raising awareness of homelessness by experiencing a night in the cold. They also volunteered at the local parish morning tea, serving those in need and building connections within the community. They have shared their love of music and song by committing their time at the local aged care home. They have learned about the work of the Loreto and CJ sisters at the UN and shared this with the community. In addition, they organised drives to collect beanies and blankets for the homeless, as well as essential items for period poverty initiatives.  Through their Stage 2 SACE subject Spiritualities, Religion and Meaning they have explored what their school journey at Loreto has meant to them and how they now see the world through a lens of Social Justice.

Graduating with these experiences, our Year 12 girls are equipped with more than just knowledge—they carry with them a deepened understanding of justice, service, and respect for the dignity of all people. We have no doubt that our Year 12 cohort will be agents of change in whatever area of life they find themselves in!
