NAIDOC DAY
At Kildare Catholic College.
The 2024 NAIDOC theme is ‘Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud’. The theme honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with fire a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Kildare celebrated NAIDOC this year with a range of cultural activities for Year 7 students. These included art, dance, sports and weaving. Each of the activities was supported by local Wiradjuri Elders and other members of our local community.
We then held a whole school assembly to share the message of this year’s theme with the Kildare community. We also had the honour of guest speaker, RAAF Lieutenant and Indigenous Liaison Officer, James Evans who shared his personal insights and experiences around this year’s theme and the notion of respect.
We would like to thank all of our special guests who made the occasion truly special. We were honoured to have them join us for NAIDOC 2024. Their support and enthusiasm added to the event's success, and we are deeply appreciative of their contribution and look forward to having them return to Kildare in the future.
