Prayer of

Venerable Nano Nagle

Holy Spirit of God,

enlighten us to understand how we can use our gifts to give you praise and serve your people in works of justice and mercy.

Teach us to listen, that we may hear your words,

give us vision born of faith to know your way for us

and courage born of love to follow it.

Amen.

On Thursday 21st November we came together in our House groups and celebrated the Presentation Liturgy. This is part of the reflection.

Today we celebrate the Presentation of Mary Mother of God - Presentation Day.

Venerable Honora Nagle, known informally as Nano Nagle, was a pioneer of Catholic education in Ireland despite legal prohibitions. She founded the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, commonly known as the Presentation Sisters.

This feast day is about the Blessed Virgin Mary who lived a life of profound prayer and contemplation from her earliest years and continued to do so throughout her life. Nano drew upon this inspiration and was moved by the Holy Spirit to act. The Blessed Virgin Mary has always been and continues to be, the Immaculate One, the sinless Spouse of the Holy Spirit, the first contemplative. Mary the Mother of God dedicated her whole life to the service of the Will of God the Father. Venerable Nano Nagle admired this call of Our Lady as she mirrored the spiritual reality of her dedication to the Will of God throughout her life.

As we ponder today the early life and dedication of the Blessed Virgin Mary to God’s Will and the contribution of Nano Nagle, reflect upon the fact that every child is capable of a profound faith and commitment to God’s Will. For those who are entrusted with the guardianship and raising of children, especially our teachers, allow your prayerful blessing to inspire us to help all young people to imitate Mary’s profound faith and holiness.
