Week 3 Term 4

Term four is rocketing along!

The students have been focused and I am very pleased with the progress everyone is making.

In the past two weeks students have learned to progress from one partner to another whilst dancing ‘La Vinca,’ and I have brought in my piano accordion to rehearse ‘On Top of Spaghetti’ for Italian Day. Students have practiced Oom -pa- pa rhythms using triangle and cowbell. It’s a hoot.

We have learned that ‘Zimbole’ means ‘peace’ and children have performed riffs on marimbas, xylophones, pianos, guitars, ukuleles, and congas to accompany this simple, yet catchy tune.

IPS Performers at Ivanhoe Childrens' Community Coop 50th  Anniversary

In the middle school, students brushed up on their ukulele and singing skills to revise ‘You Belong with Me,’ ‘Don’t Worry be Happy,’ and ‘Taba Naba,’ for the Ivanhoe Co-op 50th Anniversary performance.

I have a small, but dedicated group of musicians who will be on stage at the Co-op from 2 to 3pm.

Many thanks to those who give up their lunch and recess times to rehearse.

Why not come along this Saturday to see them perform?

Kew High Guitar Ensemble

On Wednesday, all year 4, 5, & 6 students attended a fabulous concert staged by the Kew High School Guitar Ensemble. The band played number of popular songs that the students would know and arrangements of classical and folk guitar pieces. Leon, our grade 6 guitar guru, performed ‘Creep’ with one of the high school students and it was delightful to hear Leah, an ex-student singing and playing a solo. Well done to our former students, Patrick, Jack, Gemma, and Leah!

Many thanks to the staff and students of Kew High School. A huge thank you to Mrs. Every for organising  the group's visit to our school. Here's hoping they will make it a regular visit!

Have a great week.

Yours in Music!
