Year 3

Year 3 recently visited the Wellington caves. They were lucky enough to all get the chance to have a tour of the Cathedral Cave and participate in hands-on activities in the Discovery Lab session. Some of the facts learnt on the Cathedral Cave tour included:

- Thomas Mitchell came into the cave and Named it the Cathedral Cave.

- Stalagmite that has grown together over time due to crystal growing to the roof to seal the hole, it formed an altar where people would have had church service and been baptised.

- There is still a Bible left on the pulpit from 1961, the Bible has been covered in crystal after water dripping on it for 60 years.

- The Cathedral cave has a depth of 43 metres and is normally 18 degrees in temperature.

During the discovery lab session students had the opportunity to dig for various items that would have been once found in the caves and categorise them.
