On Monday, 28th of October, we are pleased to welcome Georgia, Hayleigh, and Maddi, who will be running the It’s Okay Not To Be Okay workshops for our Year 5/6 students. Each class will participate in a one-hour session to build emotional awareness and mental health skills.

We would like to extend a special thank you to the local Rotary Club of Somerville Tyabb and Aled Roberts for generously funding these workshops, and ensuring that our younger generation receives essential tools for mental well-being.

The workshop will cover:

  • Understanding feelings and emotions
  • What mental health is
  • Factors that impact mental health
  • Tools for coping during tough times

This workshop will provide valuable insights to help students better understand and manage their emotions, fostering resilience and self-awareness.

Upcoming Wellbeing Event - Thursday, 31st of October: Mindful Mushkins Workshop for Year 6

After engaging in insightful conversations with our Year 6 students, it became clear that self-image, confidence, and looking toward the future were key topics on their minds. To support them in these areas, we are excited to announce a special wellbeing workshop in partnership with Mindful Mushkins.

Mindful Mushkins is a program specifically designed to equip children with strategies to build confidence, social awareness, and productivity. Its holistic approach incorporates resilience and mindfulness practices to help young people thrive in the face of tomorrow’s challenges.

This 3-hour workshop will be led by Isabelle Russell and Kate Smith, who will guide the students through empowering activities and discussions. The goal is to strengthen our Year 6 students' sense of self as they prepare to transition to the next stage of their education.

For more information on Mindful Mushkins and the amazing work they do, please visit their website at mindfulmushkins.com.

Signing In at the Office and Parent Arrival/Drop-Off Time - Child Safe Reminder

Welcome back, everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful and safe holiday break. As we start the new term, I’d like to share a quick Child Safe reminder. If you are entering the school for any reason beyond regular drop-off or pick-up times, please remember to sign in at the office and collect a visitor’s pass.

Additionally, if you need to use the toilets while on school grounds, please use the facilities in the Staff Room or the First Aid Room. This is in line with our Child Safe practices, ensuring that all students feel safe while at school.

Thank you so much for your cooperation and understanding.

Communication with St Brendan's Staff

At St Brendan's, there are several ways to get in touch with our staff. The most effective methods are via phone and email. If you're looking for important school information, please ensure you regularly read the school newsletter and sign up for Audiri.

As a reminder, please check which Year Level you have selected in Audiri each year, as some communications are sent directly to specific year levels, and your child’s year level may have changed since last year.

We kindly ask that all communication remains respectful at all times.

Inthis edition of SchoolTV - BODY IMAGE

Kids today are more obsessed with their body image than those in past generations. This is partially influenced by the media and their social connectivity. Encouraging kids to have a healthy body image in childhood, can lay the foundations for good physical and mental health later in life.

A recent study highlighted that body image is one of the top three concerns for Australian youth. Over half of girls in high schools have tried to lose weight. One-third of teenage boys wanted to be thinner and another third wanted to be larger. Children need to understand that their body shape and size is not a reflection of their health or success. Parents and schools need to work together to help kids understand that everyone is born with their own ‘body-suit’.

In this edition of SchoolTV, parents will learn how to encourage their child to have a positive body image and why it is so important to their mental health.

We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school counsellor for further information or seek medical or professional help.
