The da Vinci Decathlon, named after the fabled Renaissance figure Leonardo da Vinci, celebrates the all-around intellect of students across various disciplines.
This year, we are incredibly proud of the accomplishments of our four teams at the da Vinci Decathlon. Competing among 24 schools from our state, our students showcased remarkable talent and teamwork. Emmaus was represented by our three South Plympton campus teams (Year 5/6, Year 7, and Year 9) and our one Brooklyn Park campus team (Year 5/6).
In Week 6 we competed at St Peter’s Girls School. Working in teams of eight, students faced ten challenges throughout the day, covering the disciplines of Art and Poetry, Cartography, Code Breaking, Creative Producers, Engineering, English, Ideation, Legacy, Mathematics, and Science. The day was divided into three sessions, requiring several challenges to be conducted simultaneously. Success depended on effective teamwork and the ability to think both laterally and creatively.
Our Year 5/6 team from South Plympton campus:
Our Year 7 team from South Plympton campus:
In preparation for the competition, each team worked hard during lunch times, training with teachers including Emily Sanders, Chris Bright, David Chu, and Nick Rodda. Additionally, the Year 5/6 team from each campus had a dedicated training day for selection and preparation.
We are proud of the achievements of our students on this stage, well done!
Congratulations to the following outstanding students:
Year 10 student Della D won the SA Geographers’ Fieldwork Award, run by the Geography Teachers’ Association of SA and the Royal Geographical Society of SA. The award recognises outstanding success in an inquiry-based task focusing on a geographical issue.
Della’s work in Year 9 was entered into the competition and won first prize for a Year 9 student. Her topic was: How has Adelaide been influenced by globalisation? Della’s award was presented to her by the Governor of South Australia, the Honourable Frances Adamson AC.
