Seeking Support

Over the past year, I have had the blessing of being welcomed into the wonderful Emmaus community.

I have witnessed much love, laughter and learning and have worked alongside incredible educators and supportive families.

A little bit about me, I have been married to my beautiful husband for five years, and let me tell you, the real secret to our blissful union is my love for baking. He's the willing taste tester, and I'm the mastermind behind the kitchen chaos. I am a bit of a foodie, so I love trying new restaurants and experimenting with recipes. One of my favourite cakes to make is berry cheesecake.

My love for supporting young people developed during my school years. I often encouraged my friends to seek help from the school counsellor when struggling. I would accompany them to the counselling office and observe how the counsellor made them feel heard and validated, creating a safe space for students. Through observing the love and support from my school counsellor, I knew I wanted to be the one who offered that same care and love to create a safe space for young people in need. So, I took the long plunge to study Psychology at university, and although it has been challenging at times, I know it's where God has placed me. I feel incredibly blessed that I can positively impact young people’s lives.

Looking back on my school years, I remember how challenging it was for me personally to seek help or even recognise when I needed it. Although I supported my friends, asking for help proved difficult.

Whether you're an adult or a child, having someone you can freely confide in is like having a trusted compass in the wilderness - it guides you through the unknown and helps you find your way. It took me some time to grasp that vulnerability isn't a weakness but a strength. Being open and seeking support from others doesn't strip away your independence; it highlights your strength. So, whether it's sharing our struggles with a friend or seeking professional guidance, it's all part of navigating life's unpredictable terrain with grace and authenticity.
