This term, our students have enjoyed many sporting opportunities in events that challenge them as individuals and as teams.
Brooklyn Park and South Plympton campuses combined to compete in the Junior School SACSA Athletics Carnival held at SA Athletics Stadium Mile End - the location of the recent Australian Olympic trials and Junior National competitions.
Under ideal conditions, students competed across various Track and Field events, executing their learned techniques and skills to achieve their best. The team of approximately 40 students battled hard, competing against counterparts of the same age from various Christian Schools. We look forward to participating in this event next year and improving their overall positions.
Our Foundation students participated in their annual Water Safety Program at the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre. Students learned how to develop appropriate safe practices, seek help if they or others are in an unsafe position, assist someone in need, and learn about basic life survival strokes.
Our College places significant value on this program. Our local area has many aquatic environments that our families can enjoy, and we understand that the number of people comfortable in these environments is declining for various reasons. We hope the students have much to take away from this year's program and look forward to building on their knowledge and abilities next year.
Year 7-12 students participated in the modified athletics competition, Golden North SA Schools Challenge on 8 May. This competition is made up of different categories, each with different athletic events that each team had to cover using a limited number of athletes.
We have an excellent track record at this event; two years ago, our teams qualified for Nationals. This year we competed in the Intermediate Boys, Senior Boys and Intermediate Girls against larger state and independent schools.
The level of competition was very high, with many competitors having recently competed at the National Athletics. There were many highlights with some of our students achieving personal bests and defeating students in their favourite events.
Our overall Results:
In Week 5 our Year 7/8 Girls Netball Development Program Team competed in their round one Statewide Knockout Tournament at St Clair Sport and Recreation Centre at Woodville against Woodville High and Mount Carmel College. Our students won their first match convincingly, and their second match was tightly contested. Our girls were up narrowly approaching the final siren, but unfortunately drew and then went into overtime. Our girls went down narrowly by one goal. Their conduct and sportsmanship was excellent both an and off the court. Year 9-11 students will be competing in the Open Girls Knockout Tournament in Week 10 this term, and we hope that this team can perform to the same level as the Year 7/8s and possibly, even go one better!
Week 4 saw Year 11 and 12 students compete in the SACSA Rijken Cup or Volleyball, Basketball, Netball, Table Tennis, Touch Football and 7-a-side Soccer - all within one week! Our squad, led by Jethro, Orlanzo, Molly and Chloe, competed all day and night. Our students conducted themselves well for the entire week dealing with illnesses, blisters, sprains, fatigue, knocks and bruises, but this did not stop the student teams and coaches, as well as the student support personnel that came up each day cheering and chanting to achieve success during the week.
Results:
A big thank you to the coaches who continually organised before-school, lunchtime, and after-school sessions and the students who made sacrifices to support their peers, attend the training sessions, and manage their academic requirements. Thank you, and well done! Now, to begin planning for 2025!
This week, we have 11 soccer teams competing in the Year 3 -10 SACSA Soccer Carnival.
Our Year 10 PE students are officiating the Year 5/6 and 7/8 carnivals as part of their Level 4 Soccer Officiating course. We wish each student and team the best for their carnivals and hope they all come away with many memories and a desire to continue pursuing their interest in Soccer as players or officials. Thank you to all coaches, parent volunteers, and students supporting these teams and carnivals.
Our after-school winter sports programs have commenced with Basketball, Netball and Soccer. Tennis sessions are continuing at South Plympton for all students. It has been lovely to see students being active, along with their families, who have enjoyed socialising and getting involved, from linesman, coaching, medical assistance and cheering. These sporting activities are a wonderful way to bring people together and strengthen our College community. We wish those involved the very best for the seasons!
For the most up-to-date information relating to their teams, refer to your child's Stack TeamApp page for all notices and updates.
Several other students are also trialling for SAPSASA District teams and SA School Sport state teams. We wish each and every student all the best in their trials.
We look forward to sharing more updates with you throughout the term.
Term 3 has many sporting winter seasons holding their finals, representative opportunities in Years 7-10 Basketball, Years 3-10 Netball, Years 7-10 Badminton and 9-a-side AFL.
For specific dates and age groups for these events, please refer to our college calendar.
