AROUND THE SCHOOL (2 of 2)

FRENCH ESCAPE ROOM

BY LUCY T & KATE W (Year 12 Students)

Year 9 and 12 French classes recently had an escape room incursion.

Two representatives of Melbourne University arrived in a van to present us ‘Le Cambriolage’: an interactive game of les détectives and les criminels. We split into small groups and each group was assigned a suitcase. A news broadcast was played, revealing a heist that had taken place at ‘Le Musée d'Orsay.’

Each group had a series of clues to solve in each suitcase: a dot-to-dot, a mystery cube, hidden objects et plus!

Meanwhile, groups were taken one at a time to find a hidden key within the van itself. Once all suitcases were solved and each key had been found, a vault was opened to reveal a prize of… jelly beans! Délicieux! All in all, everyone had beaucoup d’amusement and we are very grateful to Melbourne University for an expérience incroyable.

PREPS EXPLORE THE COMMUNITY

BY ZAYDA DOIDGE & LOUISE CASSAR (PREP TEACHERS)

This term, the Preps have been exploring the topic of our local community and the role that we play in it.

As part of our learning, we took a bus ride to Belgrave South and engaged with the local community there. With the beautiful sun shining, we got to meet the shop keepers and look around at their businesses. It was a great way explore the different jobs and roles that people have. We also got to visit the inside of the veterinary clinic and see how they help sick animals get better.

The CFA was also a highlight. We learned the simple trick of ‘Stop, Drop and Roll’ if some of our clothing catches fire. We also got to explore the different parts of the fire truck and see all the special equipment they use to help people when there is a fire or accident. The fire fighters also showed us the lights and sirens on the fire truck. It was very loud!

We ended the day by having lunch at Belgrave Lake Park which was the favourite activity for many Preps. Overall, we had a great time exploring and engaging with our local community. Thank you to all the parent helpers who made the excursion possible.
