STUDENT LEARNING

Celebrations of learning at Lucas Primary School

GRADE 5/6 in Term 2

We have had an incredibly busy term so far! Our students enjoyed a trip back in time during our Sovereign Hill visit, competed in a variety of different sports and participated in our normal learning program.

In Reading, we have been learning to analyse and critique author’s choices to engage their readers.

In Writing, we have been learning to create narratives, using a range of persuasive devices like similes and metaphors. We have been focusing on using ‘show, don’t tell’ to add more detail.

In Numeracy, we have been learning about angles, perimeter, area and length. We have used a variety of hands-on activities to help support student learning.

In Wellbeing, we have been focusing on our school values and our SWPBS chart.

PERFORMING ARTS in Term 2

This term in Performing Arts we have been working on our acting skills.

In Prep, they have been using their knowledge of emotions to guide their voice tone and body movements when playing different characters. We are currently working on our whole class play which we are excited to perform later in the term!

Our Grade 1/2's have been changing their movements and voices to portray different characters. In small groups they have been working on short plays, and later this term we will be making our masks and preparing our costumes for our performances.

Our senior students have been investigating different ways to present performances. We have used some of these styles to retell a part of the Creation Story from Nikinya Country in Western Australia. We are currently working on writing our own plays in small groups and look forward to presenting these later in the year.
