College Matters
Teaching and Learning
I am delighted to share some exciting updates around our teaching and learning environment. Over the past few weeks, I've had the pleasure of visiting several classes across different year levels. These visits have included Science, Maths, Food Tech, and Humanities classes. It’s been wonderful to see the engaging and dynamic learning experiences our students are involved in.
In addition to classroom visits, I have recently completed training focused on upskilling staff to become effective mentors for new team members. This initiative aims to strengthen our mentorship program and supporting graduates, ensuring we continue to develop our teaching community at MGSC.
Our school has also been buzzing with vibrant music and theatre performances. A huge thank you to all the dedicated staff and talented students who have been working tirelessly to showcase their incredible work beyond the classroom. Your hard work and creativity are truly inspiring.
As we approach the end of the semester, we are preparing for upcoming assessments. This is a good time to speak as a family, ensure study spaces are set up and timetables are made to set routines and meet deadlines. These assessments will help us formally review students’ learning progress so far in 2024 and will be reflected in the semester reports. Between semesters, we will be engaging in various educational programs, and we look forward to commencing Semester 2 classes on Monday 17 June.
Week commencing Monday 10 June - more details will be communicated through Compass to parents of students in individual year levels about specific programs.

What our students say about their school
Our students prepare their own presentations for the annual 'Show &Tell' information night. The graphic below depicts visually the words used in their speeches to describe their experience at MGSC - in the classroom, with their teachers and as students.
Victoria Police Community Sentiment Survey
MGSC has an ongoing relationshiop with Victoria Police. Members often visit the school to talk students about their safety and related issues. Currently Vic Police is inviting all Victorians including our parents and carer to participate in their annual surveyu which supports their commitment to Neighbourhood Policing, how the commuity would like to interact with police (outside of an emergency) and where they can focus efforts to prevent and deter crime.
The survey is available until 31 May via the Engage Victoria website at: engage.vic.gov.au/vicpol-2024
More information about the survey and how the information is used is available there.
