Cashless Canteen at Oxford Falls

A reminder that the canteen at Oxford Falls on Saturdays is now cashless.

Supporter's Apparel

We now have Supporter's Apparel which will be for sale, initially at Oxford Falls, from Saturday 25 May.  We have Pius branded winter jackets, sleeveless puffas in stock immediately, with polos, pink caps, navy caps, beanies, scarves, zipper hoodies and quarter zip light weight pullovers to follow in early June.

Items will be displayed near the Falls Room canteen and the Basketball Canteen when it is open.  We have limited stock in the initial run of these products so I would encourage supporters to get in early to avoid disappointment.

NB. Supporter’s apparel is not for student use.

Photos of each item can be seen below, along with pricing for each item.

In conjuction with the P&F, the College has made every effort to keep prices to a minimum and we look forward to seeing as many supporters as possible, across the cocurricular programs, adopt the new range of attire.

Weekend Cocurricular

Another successful weekend in the cocurricular life of the College with some remarkable performances across the programs.

Our debating teams got us off to a good start winning 9 from 12 on Friday.   The 1st XI came back from 0 - 2 down to win 5 - 2 against St Andrew's in a very wet game at Oxford Falls and then our 1st XV made it 3 wins in a row all against CAS opposition, this time beating Trinity Grammar for the first time in a very long time.

My thanks go to everyone who braved torrential rain on Saturday to coach and support our teams.

Matt Hunt - Athletics

Congratulations to Year 12 student, Matt Hunt who has been selected in the Australian team to contest the World Under 20 Years Championships in Lima, Peru, in August.

Athletics Australia announced the team on Thursday.

Huge congratulations go to Matt and to track and field coach, Ron Bendall who has worked with Matt through both his club athletics and St Pius X College athletics programs.

Mr Matt Stearn - Assistant Principal, Cocurricular

AFL

On Tuesday this week, St Pius X attended the Greater Sydney Schools Opens AFL Gala Day at Blacktown International Sports Park. Amidst a backdrop of excitement and anticipation, the team courageously took to the field, showcasing their skills and enthusiasm for the first time in St Pius X blue and gold. Despite facing formidable opponents, we secured a hard-fought victory against Westfields Sports High School, while encountering setbacks in the other two fixtures against Endeavour Sports High School and St Gregory’s College. Throughout the event, the unwavering support of our dedicated parents provided an invaluable source of encouragement and motivation for our players. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the parents who came out to cheer the team on. Congratulations to our team for their determination and sportsmanship displayed throughout the Gala Day! Thanks also goes to Mr Wheatley and Mr Ronchetti for attending and supporting the team.

CSDA Debating

Debating continues this week at Parramatta Marist.

The CSDA Debating Competition runs through Term 2 on the following evenings, at these locations:

Rundown of Round 3 (17/05/2024):

•           Supper 3:30 pm - 3:45 pm

•           Meet up with coaches 3:45 pm - 4:00 pm

•           Travel via coach at 4:00 pm

•           Coin toss will be at 5:00 pm

•           A 6:00 pm debate start and

•           Approximately 7:30 pm finish

Some information from Parramatta Marist:

If driving to the venue enter Gate 3 on Darcy Road across from Westmead Private Hospital. There will be parking in the visitor's area. Head towards the school office near the top fields and students will guide you to the Learning Centre.

If catching public transport PMHS is conveniently located within walking distance from Westmead Station or by bus at the Hospital T-Way station. Enter via the Pedestrian Entrance on Darcy Road across from Westmead Dental Hospital. Students will guide you to the Learning Centre where we will have the seminar.

Parents/guardians/carers are encouraged to be spectators of these debates, otherwise students will be ready for pick up approximately 1-1.5 hours after the debates commence.

All team members must attend every debate, and should a student not be able to attend a debate, whether they are a speaker or not, the parent/guardian/carer must inform the coach ahead of the debate about this student’s absence.

It is essential that debating students meet at the clock after our Sports Assembly every Friday, attend all training and the first six rounds. If your team makes it through to the Elimination round (and beyond) you also need to keep the above dates free.

Football

Results Saturday 11 May

A weekend of mostly positive results.  It was just amazing that most teams were able to actually complete their fixtures before the fields became unsafe for play. Team of the week would have to be the mighty 4th XI with their 10 - 0 victory, closely followed by the 15C with their 9 - 1 triumph.

This weekend sees all away fixtures.

Fields can be found at the following locations:

St Andrew's Oval - Carilon Ave, Camperdown (very limited parking available)

Moore Park Synthetic - Lang Rd, Moore Park

Chifley Field 2 - 801- 899R Bunnerong Rd, Chifley

Macquarie University Fields - Cnr Talavera and Culloden Rd, Marsfield

A reminder that there is no Monday training on the 20/5 or 3/6 due to Year 11 and 12 Parent teacher evenings.

Good luck to all teams this weekend.

Mr Simon Yue, Senior Football Convenor

Rugby

As the rain continued to fall last Saturday, St Pius X College travelled to Trinity Grammar school. Considering the poor weather, St Pius X students dug deep against strong competition and congratulations to 14A’s, 2nd XV and 1st XV for a well-deserved win.

Thank you to all the students, supporters, and coaches for supporting the St Pius X Rugby on what was a tough day in some poor conditions.

Last week the CIS Swimming championships took place at Homebush Aquatic Centre. Nick Gladen achieved Silver in the 50m Backstroke and Bronze in the 100m Backstroke. He has now qualified for All Schools which is the next stage in school swimming. Joel Pagnano came 5th in the 50m Freestyle and 6th in the 100m Freestyle. Luca McCarthy came 3rd in the 100m Backstroke and 6th in the 50m Breaststroke. The Junior Medley Relay came 9th and Jayden Law came 7th in his 50m Breaststroke.

Tennis

The weather has not been on our side lately, making it challenging for us to train and compete as we would like. We are praying for clear skies this weekend so that our students can finally bask in the joy of this week's fixtures.

Please see below for details of this week’s fixtures.

Division 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 – at Mosman Lawn Tennis Centre against Redlands.

Division 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 – at Talus St against Redlands.

And our Development Blue and Gold teams will showcase their skills at the Oxford Falls Campus.

Please make sure to check Clipboard for more detailed information. If, by any chance, your son is unable to participate, an email before Friday 8:00 am would be appreciated.

Looking forward to clear skies this weekend!
