A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
It has been a busy start to Term 2. The term has commenced smoothly, with students quickly settling into the learning routine.
Learning Focus
On Friday 17 May we held our Curriculum Day. This day provided our staff with an opportunity to collaborate on reinforcing the key elements of our college’s instructional model and what constitutes best practice when engaging in the learning with our students.
College Values: Respect, Resilience and Responsibility
A quick reminder of our college values, collectively determined by students, families and staff. This term our focus is on Responsibility.
Responsibility is about being accountable for your actions, making wise choice and fulfilling your duties to yourself and others. Students can demonstrate this by completing all set tasks on time, following their teacher’s instructions, taking responsibility for their learning and not interfering with the learning of their peers.
Our recent Parent/Student/Teacher meetings provided a chance to discuss students’ progress. I thank our teaching team for their time and effort in preparing meaningful feedback for our students, and I hope these conversations have proved fruitful for all involved.
Last week our students participated with great spirit at our whole school Athletics Carnival. Congratulations to all our students and staff for the fantastic costumes and participation across the day … and well done to Gladstone for bringing their best and taking home the win!
Mobile phone reminder: Switch Off to Switch On
As per Department regulations, students must switch off their phones and store them securely from the moment they arrive on school grounds until they leave at the end of the day. Failure to abide by this regulation will result in a confiscation of the student phone.
Students are being reminded regularly of these arrangements and the College Mobile phone Policy is available on the College website
Every Day Counts! Every Lesson Counts!
Regular school attendance is crucial for young people to excel in education and avoid falling behind socially and developmentally. Those who attend school regularly and complete Year 12 or an equivalent qualification tend to have better health outcomes, employment prospects, and higher incomes throughout their lives. School participation maximizes life opportunities by providing education and support networks, helping individuals develop essential skills, knowledge, and values for further learning and community engagement. If you require assistance in ensuring your child's school attendance, please reach out to the relevant year level coordinator.
Student Accident InsuranceParents/carers are reminded that the Department of Education & Training does NOT provide personal accident insurance for students. Parents/carers are responsible for the cost of any ambulance expenses and medical expenses. Reasonably low-cost accident insurance is available if parents/carers wish to cover any expenses not covered by Medicare and/or private health insurance. You may choose your own insurance company or contact EBM Insurance Brokers online at www.studentcover.com.au to apply for cover.
As we work our way through Term 2, in pursuit of our best, I urge each of us to consider how we can add that ‘small effort’ every day so that its sum can be evidenced in our individual success. “Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.” Robert Collier
