Level 2

Level  2

It’s been another fun-filled, busy week in Level 2!

Inquiry

This fortnight in Inquiry students have loved engaging with ABC’s Short and Curly Podcast -  a fun-filled ethics-based podcast for kids. The ‘bite-sized’ 5-minute episodes have had students thinking about their opinions relating to finding money on the ground, loopholes, telling fibs and rule-breaking. Students have entered into a range of Visible Thinking Routines to think about and justify their opinions, consider new information from the episode and to modify and adjust their ideas.

Students have also started planning and building their ‘end of Inquiry’ project where they are investigating an ethical dilemma of choice. Students will write a persuasive argument with a partner and will use PowerPoint to create, animate and ‘voice over’ their argument. It has been wonderful seeing students showcasing their talent in creating PowerPoints!

Writing

Students have loved exploring our new writing focus…Persuasive! Students have shown passion and excitement when asked “What school rule would you change if you could?” They have learnt about embedding strong language choices, rhetorical questions, personal stories, evidence and reasons.

Reading

This fortnight has seen us unpacking a range of persuasive texts with students including I Wanna Iguana, Click Clack Moo, as well as opinion articles from ‘Times Kids’. Students have used these texts to explore cause and effect, analysing, opinion and text-to-world connections.

Maths

Students have absolutely adored investigating money this fortnight, and have learnt how to add and subtract amounts of money, how to count large amounts of coins efficiently, use catalogues to ‘go shopping’ and to calculate change. Students have also explored the importance of rounding and estimating money to help with calculations.

Students have begun exploring the measurement of length and have loved investigating measuring the length and width of our body parts using informal and formal units.
