Ski Camp 2023

Every year a select group of students are given the rare opportunity to be able to participate on a week-long trip to Hotham Ski Resort.

Mount Hotham is nestled in the Australian Alps and offers a breathtaking view with its stunning alpine scenery and a myriad of outdoor activities.

On our first day, we took a 5-hour long drive to Mount Hotham from Dandenong High School. We stayed at Bembooka Lodge which was a 3-story tall building with a large cosy lounge, multiple rooms and even a game room fitted with a pool table, foosball table and a TV.

Every day, we woke up early in the morning and prepared for our ski lessons with professional ski and snowboarding instructors. We were all split into skill levels - beginner, intermediate and advanced. We went down the Summit Slope, the chairlift glided smoothly and we got to take in the view during and at the top of the chairlift ride. Afterwards, we went to the Hotham Hotel Cafe to enjoy a freshly prepared lunch. Once we finished lunch, we were allowed to resume free time down the slopes. Later on in the week, we were allowed to go down the intermediate slopes such as the Village and Sun Run. These were the perfect balance between fun and challenging, being steep and bumpy. The more advanced groups went on multiple black runs which were really challenging. These included trails such as Heavenly Valley, Gun Barrel, Milky Way and more. These runs were extremely steep, bumpy and patchy, making it really hard.

Overall, it was a really exciting trip and we had a lot of fun even if we stacked a bunch of times. We got to experience the thrill of gliding down the slopes, enjoyed the striking view and made lots of new friends. It was a truly enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
