OSHC
Tomorrow’s Leaders for Sustainability
This week’s TLfS session was jam packed; our students revisited worm farming and learnt about how worms can break down organic waste from food and garden trimmings and transform it into a natural fertiliser.
They learnt to identify weeds and weeded our garden adding the weeds to our compost bin. We learnt about landscape design and where to put plants so that they thrive best, we discussed sun/shade, rainfall, run off and slope, soil type and then with this information began planting some new bush tucker plants. Pascale shared her knowledge of the plant Karawun (Lomandra) and it’s uses in traditional Boonwurrung culturculture for food and weaving and its importance for ecology.
Thank You
We have lots of shout outs to give this fortnight:
A huge thank you to Nikki (our amazing Finance Manager) who very kindly donated a large compost bin for our garden. Please see photos above of how we have already started using this at OSHC.
Another huge thank you goes out to Park Road Mitre 10 who have donated, compost and mulch as well as marine ply timber that we will be using for our mural in the OSHC garden.
Thank you to Mason’s mum Clare who donated us a tub of Hamma beads after we were struggling to find some in Kmart.
Another thank you goes out to Maddi and Ellie’s mum Lyndsay who did a big clean out at home and brought in books, puzzles and boards games for our students to use.
Our last thanks goes out to Bayside Indigenous Nursery who added a few extra surprise plants to our order.
We are so lucky to have such a great community supporting us!

Children’s Week
Children’s Week 2023 is held between 21 October – 29 October 2023. The Children’s Week National Theme for 2023 is based on United Nations Convention Rights of the Child Article 31: Children have the right to relax, play and take part in activities they enjoy. This week at OSHC we have spent time discussing what the UNCRC means and have been discussing our favourite ways to play, relax and have fun.
Bookings for 2024
If you currently use the service and will be enrolling a Prep student in 2024:
We are now accepting 2024 enrolments for siblings of children currently using the OSHC program. We strongly encourage you to return your completed enrolment form to us by 3 November 2023 as this is when we open booking for all students wishing to attend in 2024. Please add your current booked child/children to this enrolment form so that we have up to date information. More information regarding 2024 bookings can be read on Compass postdated 25 October.
