Regional Athletics

Last Wednesday 5 girls headed off to the Regional Athletics Championships at Casey Fields in Cranbourne. It was perfect conditions for Athletics with minimal wind and the sun shining.

First up with an early start at 9.15am was Issy in the 1500m event. It was an extremely tough and strong field in the event. It was an extremely tough and strong field in the race with the winner producing a half a field lead and a PB so a tough competitor who led the field the entire race. Well done to Issy with a smashing performance to finish 7th on the day.

Mia then took to the Discus net and performed super well with her last throw of 19.39m being her best throw. Probably helped that she finally took off her bomber jacket and threw with just her sports top on!! A great result overall 5th place. Well done!

Claudia was up next to show case her Hurdles action and was super quick out of the blocks, leapt over all the Hurdles and didn’t knock one of them down!! Was just pipped at the post by two fast runners who are coached Hurdles competitors. Well done on a Bronze medal. Great effort Claudia.

Ada was up next to leap high into the air with her great High Jumping skills. A nerve-wracking experience as the bar gets higher and higher and slowly the competitors fail the height leaving 5 jumpers left to try and get over the bar at 130m. Four girls make the height, and the bar goes up to 1.35m. All four jump the height and bar goes to 1.36m. A nail-biting finish with Ada getting equal third on a count back to be awarded the bronze medal in High Jump. Great work Ada.

Our final event for the day was the 4 x 100m Relay where we had in running order- Ada to start off the race, to pass the baton to Claudia who runs the back straight fast, passes to Eliza who runs the curve and passes to Issy who comes home strong to finish overall in 6th place out of the 16 relay teams that ran.
