Principal's Report: Newlands School Newsletter

Celebrating World Teachers’ Day Dear Newlands School Community,

World Teachers’ Day, a day of global significance, is typically observed on October 5th. However, here in Victoria, Australia, we mark this special occasion on the 27th of October. It serves as an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the tireless efforts of our educators who have had a lasting impact on our lives. Whether you are a current student, a parent with children in our school, or have been out of school for some time, World Teachers’ Day provides a moment to express our gratitude.

Having served as the principal of Newlands for quite some time, I can unequivocally affirm that our dedicated teaching staff works tirelessly to deliver a rich and multifaceted curriculum that seamlessly blends English and Spanish. They remain steadfast in their commitment to our vision of bilingualism, fostering environments that spark curiosity and encourage children to explore learning through the lens of a second language.

Toilet Facilities - Addressing Vandalism

It is with some disappointment that we must address ongoing issues related to inappropriate behaviour in our student toilet facilities. We kindly request parents to reinforce the message that if they witness any instances of vandalism or other inappropriate behaviours, children should promptly inform their teacher. As the saying goes, "The behaviour you walk past is the behaviour you accept." Please reiterate this message at home.

Asbestos Removal Notice

This weekend, our building contractors will be undertaking the removal of asbestos from the area where they are currently working. Rest assured, this is a purely precautionary measure and will not pose any risk to the safety of our students, staff, or parents when we all return on the following Monday.

Day of the Dead - A Cultural Celebration

We eagerly anticipate the celebration of the Day of the Dead next week. It promises to be a week filled with cultural enrichment and imaginative experiences, culminating in a vibrant Friday celebration. I extend my gratitude in advance to the parents who have been actively engaged in supporting our Spanish coordinator and teachers to make this cultural event a success.

Upcoming Fete - Volunteers Needed

On the topic of support, our school fete is just around the corner, and we are in need of numerous volunteers to ensure the day is a success, raising valuable funds for our Parent and Friends Association (PFA). Whether you can spare a couple of hours to help with the various stalls or the bustling 'Sausage Sizzle' BBQ, your contribution will make a significant difference. Please sign up to volunteer; you'll feel a strong sense of fulfillment!

Reminder: School Closure on 7th November 2023

A friendly reminder that Newlands School will be closed on Monday, the 7th of November 2023.

Wishing you all a wonderful month ahead and looking forward to the many exciting activities and events that lie in store for our school community.

Cheers,

Ross.
