Learning Across the Curriculum

The Mambourin students have returned this Term 4 full of joy and curiosity! We have started our new units, and the children are exploring the world of nature in different ways. Defining what is and is not a living thing? Exploring the energy source living things need to survive, understanding habitats and identifying how living things survive in different habitats. Most importantly they are making connections to this knowledge in their own lives. Children are taking action in different ways, through our own gardens, bringing seeds, and sharing their prior knowledge about unique animals like polar bears and camels holding water in their humps.

Some children transferred this knowledge when they planned to dress up at Theme Day as ‘Living things’. This allowed our students to think about how they can show their ‘Living thing’ dress up to reflect what they are learning about living things.

Our gardens offer rich opportunities to explore the life cycle and understand the way plants grow and survive. We have harvested beetroot, carrots, and mint! Daily the children are discovering new growth and we have started planting our next crops of herbs, lettuce, and tomatoes. This is offering authentic connections between our units and our own campus projects. The children are transferring their knowledge from the unit to the observations and theories about how our garden grows and thrives.

Mambourin’s First Student Led Conference

The Mambourin community celebrated learning this week at our first-ever Student Led Conference. It was delightful to see families interacting with their children, who confidently led their families around different learning experiences. Our children could share how they think, solve problems, and engage in learning activities.

We were so proud of everyone involved and wish to thank our families for their participation and wonderful support of their children’s learning.
