Literacy

In Reading, we will:

  • Compare inferences with those of other readers, understanding that ideas in texts can be conveyed from different viewpoints which can lead to multiple interpretations and responses
  • Integrate existing content knowledge with new information from a variety of texts on the same topic to consciously create new understandings
  • Read fiction and non-fiction texts containing mature themes to build social awareness and examine the authenticity of themes and subjects represented
  • Critique a text by breaking it into component parts and evaluating how they fit together to accomplish the writer’s purpose or communicate a message

In Writing, we will:

  • See themselves as a part of a community of writers who self-evaluate their own writing and make decisions about possible changes based on constructive feedback received from others
  • Take risks as writers and experiment with producing unique pieces that reflect their personality, interests and increasing global awareness
