Junior School

Week 3

This week, we extend a warm welcome to Grace White, who is joining us for her second teaching practicum experience from Curtin University. Grace will be working with the Year Four Green class alongside Mrs. Jasmine Fillipone. We are thrilled to have her on board.

In addition to welcoming Grace, we're excited to inform you about some upcoming events that will make this term even more thrilling. One event that garnered immense anticipation was the Katich Moody Shield Game, which took place on Thursday. The atmosphere in the school was high the day before the event, with those students playing buzzing with excitement.

The Year Four Strings Concert was on Wednesday afternoon, and it was a resounding success. Thank you for encouraging your children to practice their instrument.

Our social skill of the week was looking at the "M" in TCPLUM - Trinity boys Care, use their Commonsense, are Punctual, pick-up Litter, wear their Uniform with great pride and demonstrate outstanding Manners. I have been overjoyed with the superb manners used by our students in the Junior School. Boys are, with great gusto, greeting everyone so much so a staff member from the Senior School commented. What person doesn't like a hello and smile to start the day? I am very proud of our boys for the way they have taken on the M in TCPLUM.

We look forward to an eventful and enriching Term Four at Trinity Junior School and appreciate your continued support. If you have any questions or would like more information about these events or any other school-related matters, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Thank you for being a vital part of our school community, and we can't wait to make this term a memorable one together!

Annual Katich Moody Cricket Match

Last Thursday, the Trinity College Junior School ‘A’ Cricket Team played Guildford in the annual Katich Moody Shield.

To give some background, this game is played to acknowledge to outstanding careers of Simon Katich and Tom Moody, who represented Trintiy ad Guildford respectively in cricket and had outstanding careers at club, domestic and International Level, with both men representing Australia.

The boys who represented Trinity College were as follows:

  • Otis Brescacin (captain)
  • Alistair Cosby (vice captain)
  • Jonah Marshall
  • Ben Parsons
  • Joshua Lim
  • Adam Di Leo
  • Leo Allen-Hackling
  • Ryley Parnham
  • Henry Martin
  • Luca Marocchi
  • Lucas Harold

The side was captained by Otis Brescacin, who was ably assisted by Alistair Cosby as the Vice Captain.

The team was presented by the First XI Cricket Team, with the captain of the side, Otis Brescacin given a badge to acknowledge that he was voted by his peers to captain the side.

Guildford won the toss, and we were sent into bowl on a dry deck that promised lots of runs. The TC boys got off to a cracking start, with a wicker first ball to Alistair Cosby, who hit the top of off. Next over, Ryley Parnham struck to have Guildford 2 for not many.

Two of Guildford’s batsmen steadied the ship, putting on an excellent partnership of 60 runs. Adam Di Leo dried things up with 3 miserly overs before Henry Martin and Leo Allen Hackling, who was bowling some Nathan Lyon like  spin, came in a took 2 vital wickets. From there, Jonah Marshall came after a fantastic display of wicketkeeping and cleaned up the tail with 2 quick wickets. The chase...122 to win.

The boys were treated to a fantastic lunch from the TC Canteen and had the opportunity to mingle amongst their opponents. This is always a very special part of the day.

Our batting innings opened with Lucas Harold and Luca Marocchi, under strict instruction to drop the anchor, block out the good balls and hit the bad ones. They put on a fantastic partnership of 60 runs which really set the win up. From there, captain Otis Brescacin came in, knocking up a Glen Maxwell like 50 off 33 balls. Ben Parsons and Alistair Cosby followed suit with swashbuckling 50s in record time. Ryley Parnham came in to finish off the innings with a strong 14 off 22 delivers. Trinity’s finished with a final score of 266, retaining the Katich Moody Shield for another year. The boys even received a congratulatory text from Simon Katich after the game.

Overall, the day is a great one to be a part of as the boys play for 40 overs and give themselves the opportunity to play themselves in in comparison to the T20 they regularly play on a Thursday afternoon. What also made this year special was a bit of atmosphere at recess and lunch, with many of the Junior School and Senior School boys coming out to watch.

A big thanks must go to Mr Thompson for his organisation for the day, to Mrs Spencer for setting up the pavilion for lunch, to the umpires who officiated on the day, to the parents who supported, and to Guildford team for the spirit in which they played the game.

We very much look forward to 2024.

TOBA Assembly

Junior School boys were entertained by the amazing Pipes and Drums today. It was a mesmerising performance and we then heard from one of the Pipes and Drums members who talked to the boys and shared about the experience of being a member of this historical group. A lot of future members in the audience after that compelling performance.

The mood then shifted as Mr Peter Torres, TOBA legend, led the House groups through the Rumble Cup. It was loud, it was energetic, and the passion was there from every single boy. An amazing way to finish the week in Junior School with such TC Spirit!
