Staughton Sports Update

 Junior Cricket

Coming off a comfortable win against Bachhus Marsh, the boys were full of confidence heading into the second round of junior cricket where they took on Gisborne Secondary College. The boys were confident coming into the match but knew that they would come against some stiff competition. Captain Jujhar lost the toss and the boys were sent into the field. It was always going to be a tough task with the conditions being quite hot. The Staughton boys got off to a great start with Arbaz and Jujhar each getting a wicket in the first 6 overs and then the boys managed a run out to really put the Gisborne team under pressure, being 3/22 after the 7th over. Unfortunately, from there, it went pear shaped with the Gisborne boys taking advantage of some inexperienced bowling and they finished the innings at 3 for 132 with a couple of their batsman retiring on 30 runs.

The boys were encouraged to value their wicket during their batting innings and the opener Ayden Brown did just that, managing to face up to 4 overs of the Gisborne opening bowlers whilst scoring some runs himself. Unfortunately, he was ran out but played a great innings. After this the boys lost 4 quick wickets putting the tail enders under pressure to reach the total. Pavan put up some great resistance finishing with 21 runs (top run scorer) which included his first ever 6! Well done Pavan. The boys were eventually all out for 44.

It was a great effort by the boys to get this far, with the majority of them never playing cricket before and some players batting for the first time. They should be very proud that they represented Staughton College so well!
