Year 8 Camp

Our Year 8 Camp to El Shaddai had students:

  • canoeing (and then swimming),
  • braving a giant swing,
  • becoming skilled at archery,
  • performing in a talent show,
  • raft- making (they can now survive in the wild),
  • rock climbing and much more.

It was a wonderful opportunity for our Year 8s to connect beyond the classroom, to grow and support one another as they participated in new adventures and created life-long memories together!

Body of Christ

"And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body."

1 Corinthians 12: 16-20 (NIV)

In Week 4, 7B continued this term’s assembly theme of the church, by presenting on the body of Christ. During the assembly students in 7B explained how the church (and indeed our College community) is made up of many types of people from a variety of backgrounds with a range of gifts and abilities. However, despite our differences, Christians have one thing in common - faith in Jesus.

Through an enthusiastic drama skit in which students depicted different body parts, two common mistakes were highlighted that Christians can make. Firstly, being too proud of our abilities and secondly believing we have nothing to contribute to the body of Christ. Sometimes in orchestras it could be tempting to view instruments in hierarchies of significance. Yet, the different instruments have to acknowledge that they all need each other if the music is to be complete and in tune.

7B conveyed the important message that every single member in the church matters as much as every other one. Instead of comparing ourselves to one another, we need to recognise that our gifts and skills are valuable to God and we should use them - together - to honour God.
