Once Upon a Festival

On Thursday of Week 3, students from Years 7-11 attended the Once Upon a Festival at Immanuel College. The festival was a celebration of all things literary, and students attended talks and workshops by world-renowned authors and artists.

A key recurring theme was the importance of having a voice. Many of the authors emphasised the fact that we all have a voice which is unique to us; like a fingerprint. Our individual identities are apparent through our voice, that shines through in the way we write. Other authors encouraged us to work on discovering and refining our voice so that it may be recognisable. We were also reminded that our voices are powerful, and can be used to inspire, encourage and bring about positive change in the world around us.

Students also enjoyed the opportunity to ask authors and artists questions, have their books signed and participate in a book swap for charity, all while enjoying live music, food trucks and a festival atmosphere. It was truly an inspiring experience for our budding authors and book worms.
